Brilliant place and location.

Much money has been invested here to fully update the facilities. Rooms benefit as a result of ornate chandeliers and decoration that is in keeping with the hotel’s history. It opened, originally, in 1854. The result is that this is a very distinctive, certainly not ‘run of the mill’, hotel and one to be remembered for a long time to come. It couldn’t be more centrally situated; in the CBD. Her Majesty’s Theatre, shops and transport links are an easy walk away.

Diners’ delight.

The food here is of excellent quality and value. Try the on-site bistro and pizzeria and down a few drinks in the public bar … or cider bar. Step outside the door and there are plenty of other choices. These include the Vietnamese Noodle House and Harry Lime’s. There’s no breakfast served here but there’s a toaster in the room and plenty of breakfast café options are right outside the main door.

Free parking.

Parking is free and that’s a real bonus, here, in the centre of town. Wi-Fi is also freely available.

Negative Reviews

A bit of a dim view.

Lighting in the rooms is not bright enough. Apparently, some rooms don’t even have windows!

Give preference to party poopers!

The hotel is a social centre with functions and parties monopolizing the scene, particularly during the weekend and holiday periods. Yes, it can get very loud and yes, it can disrupt your sleep and spoil an otherwise enjoyable stay. They are trying to juggle all requirements but paying guests deserve more consideration.

Living like a goldfish.

The private bathroom is, very strangely, in the middle of the room and encased only in frosted glass. Everyone and everything are on view. Just hope that ‘frost’ doesn’t melt!
