Positive Reviews

Dinner is a genuine delight

According to reviews, the castle is impressive, but it is the replica of an original. However, guests say there is nothing phoney about dining here at the grand table. They happily rate the food as being excellent. Additionally, travellers say the 19th century New Zealand furnishings and fashion do have real appeal. Breakfast is also well received by guests.

Rooms are fit for royalty

Guests say that they are blown away by the views from their rooms which are spacious, clean, and well fitted out with comfortable beds. If there are any room deficiencies, guests say that they are obliterated by the memory of those views. Visitors are of the opinion that the accommodation is fit for a king or queen. Guests on a budget staying in the more basic Stable Rooms are also delighted with the value they receive.

There are gardens of tranquillity

When the gardens are closed to the public, resident guests are thrilled to be able to wander around at their leisure. The only sound is that of the birds, and guests say it is a memorable experience to stay on these grounds.

Negative Reviews

Ship ahoy

The Ballroom Café is a popular haunt for daytime refreshments. Although it is enjoyed by guests, all is well until a cruise ship is espied docking at Dunedin’s Harbour. Shortly afterwards, hordes of tourists descend on the café. This definitely causes quite a stir for those seeking a quiet meal.
