About The Beachcomber

Located just a short seven-minute walk from the gorgeous sands of Tahunanui Beach, The Beachcomber is a traditional motel with a heated outdoor pool.

The simply furnished and decorated rooms feature basic cooking facilities, including a fridge, microwave, and tea/coffee stations. Other amenities include LCD TVs with cable channels and free Wi-Fi.

A boardroom suitable for meetings and a larger room suitable for conferences and functions are available for hire.

Open for breakfast and dinner, Saltwater Bar & Kitchen is the in-house restaurant. They use mostly locally grown and raised produce in their dishes, and are especially well-known for their coffee, which is roasted locally.

The Natureland Wildlife Trust, a small but much-loved zoo featuring local fauna, makes for an ideal family outing and is just an eight-minute walk from The Beachcomber . Nelson's town centre is less than five kilometres away.

Positive Reviews

Great location for beach lovers

The reviews suggest travellers in search of sand and surf are in heaven at this motel. They report that it is just a short walk to unspoiled Tahunanui Beach, which seems to be a big hit with both young and old. Guests also note that they are within walking distance of a decent selection of dining options and attractions.

Very nice pool

The pool is a big hit with guests travelling in all but the coldest months. They especially like that it is heated, making for a comfortable swimming experience through much of the year. It is said to be quite large, with enough room for all who want to enjoy it.

Clean and spacious rooms

It is rare to read any harsh words written about the rooms here. The first things guests note are that they are very spacious and have been properly cleaned by the housekeeping team before travellers are allowed to check in.

Negative Reviews

Too hot or too cold

Guests travelling in mid-summer or mid-winter find it hard to channel their inner Goldilocks, remarking that the rooms are invariably too hot or too cold, respectively. The fans and the small wall-mounted heaters are said to be unable to create a temperature that is just right.

Dated inside and out

It is remarked that both the outside and inside of this property have something of a dated feel. While it doesn't seem to negatively affect functionality, guests do feel a "blast from the past" when staying here.
