About The Honest Lawyer

Framed by the mountains in the background and overlooking the water's edge of the Waimea Estuary, The Honest Lawyer is an "Olde World" English country pub offering laid-back accommodation and a friendly vibe.

Vintage-like rooms and cottages include en-suite facilities and useful amenities such as coffee makers, in-room phones and free Wi-Fi. Cottages add exposed beams and separate living areas with a patio.

Guests can take in stunning views from the water deck, or enjoy a fireplace in the winter months and a giant, outdoor chess set in the warmer months. Additionally, self-service laundry facilities are provided on site.

The day starts off with a free help-yourself continental breakfast. The on-site restaurant offers guests an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, followed by a wide selection of after-dinner drinks and hearty pub fare in the bar.

Built in 1855 and fully restored to its Victorian beauty, Broadgreen Historic House is viewable by appointment about one kilometre from The Honest Lawyer.

Positive Reviews

Old-world charm

The old paintings in the hallways and rooms, as well as the worldly decor and rustic feeling throughout this charming establishment are what makes it so special, according to visitors. They love the Old-English pub theme such as the wood that's used in the doors, as well as the lovely touches in the rooms and public areas.

Breakfast is a nice touch

Guests are pleasantly surprised with the idea of the free continental breakfast at the top of the stairs and end of the hallway. They like the good selection of cereals, milk, juice and other yummy options, and appreciate that the self-service option means they can help themselves whenever they're peckish.

Restaurant quality food

Whether it's afternoon tea, lunch in the restaurant or typical pub fare, guests rave about the first class hospitality and service here. Most of all however, they think the food is fantastic, plentiful and absolutely scrumptious.

Negative Reviews

A little hot and stuffy

Travellers who get a room without air conditioning mention that it's often a little uncomfortable. Even though there's a fan in the rooms, guests feel it's insufficient, especially during the warm summer months.

Minor noise issues

The hotel is on a main road, and guests who get a room facing the road sometimes feel that there's a little too much noise that makes its way into the rooms.
