Im 13. Jahrhundert wurde Kromeríz der Residenzsitz der Bischöfe und Erzbischöfe von Olomouc. Bischof Karl II. von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn ließ daraufhin das Schloss und die Schlossgärten durch die italienischen Architekten Filiberto Lucchese und Giovanni Pietro Tencalla neu errichten und umgestalten. Die Künstler Baltazare Fontana und P. A. Pagani - ebenfalls aus Italien - wurden für die Verzierungen und Einrichtung des Schlosses herangezogen. Besichtigung Schloss: Im Jagdsalon mit Vorraum findet der Besucher eine Ausstellung von Jagdtrophäen. Der Rosa Salon ist mit Mobiliar und Bildern italienischer Handwerker verziert. Anschließend geht der Besucher in das Zimmer des Zaren, welches einst als Empfangssalon des russischen Zaren Alexander III. fungierte. Der nächste Ausstellungsraum, der Beratungssaal, ist eine Portraitgalerie der Bischöfe und Erzbischöfe von Olomouc. Im Thronsaal sowie wie im großen und kleinen Speisesaal sind Teile der Schlossbildersammlung untergebracht. Den Kern der Gemäldegalerie findet man in den Sälen im 2. Stock des Schlosses. Die Schlossbibliothek - ebenfalls im 2. Stock - mit über 80.000 Bücher enthält Manuskripte, Erstdrucke und alte Drucke, aber auch eine Graphiksammlung (19 000 Inventarnummern) sowie eine weltberühmte Sammlung von kirchlichen Prägungen von Münzen und Medaillen. Nur die Sammlung in den Vatikanischen Museen ist größer. Besichtigung Gärten: Im 19. Jahrhundert wurden die Schlossgärten durch eine Erweiterung auf 64 Hektar Fläche zum Landschaftspark mit Wiesen, seltenen Bäumen und Sträuchern, Teichen und Bächen sowie romantischen Bauten. Die zweite Parkanlage - einst Lustgarten - wird heute Blumenpark genannt und wurde nach dem frühbarocken Gartenkonzept gestaltet. Die Gartenanlagen und das Schloss in Kromeríz wurden unter die Nationalen Kulturdenkmäler der Tschechischen Republik eingereiht und seit Dezember 1998 sind sie auch in die Weltliste des Natur- und Kulturerbes der UNESCO aufgenommen.
