Castle of Mey (Mey, United Kingdom)

The Castle of Mey serves as a memorial to the Queen mother, who purchased the property after the death of King George VI. The castle dates from 1572 and was originally known as Barrogill Castle. Additions were done in the 18th century by the architect William Burn and later restoration work was done to the order of the Queen Mother. The castle has been left untouched since her passing away and offers an insight into her life and personality. Mey castle is open to the public daily between 10h30 and 16h00 from May to July and again from around mid-August to 30 September. Staff are on hand to share anecdotes and facilities such as the tea room and visitor centre are open from 10h00 to 17h00. Access for disabled patrons is limited and the tariff for adults is £8.00 for a full visit and £3.00 for gardens & grounds only.
