The Caravansaray in Safranbolu dates back to 1645 when it was commissioned by Karabaszade Hüseyin Efendi, also known as Cinci Hoca. The inn was designed by one of the leading Turkish architects of this era, Mimar Kasim.Originally it was used to offer shelter for the merchant that were travelling on the silk road, on which the village is located. The two storied building was built on top of a stream and features a courtyard, vaulted ceilings and an observation tower. The hamam (bath house) of the historical inn is located right next to the building. The Cinci Han has been completely restored and is now a hotel and restaurant. The Caravansaray is one of the many historical buildings in Safranbolu which have earned the town the title of being one of the 20 best preserved villages in the world and a place amongst the World Heritage Sites of the UNESCO. The Cinci Han is located directly in the center of the old bazaar of the town.
