Shivenanda Jhula Bridge also known as Ram Jhula (Rishikesh, India)

Two large bridges cross the river Ganges in Rishikesh. The elder of the two is Lakshman Jhula bridge which crosses higher up the river and at a greater height above the river and the newer bridge is Shivananda Bridge (also known as Shivananda Jhula and Ram Jhula) which is further downstream and crosses at a lower elevation above the river. The Shivananda Jhula bridge is closer to the place where the daily Ganga Aarti ceremony takes place. The Shivananda Bridge was built in the 1980s and is supposedly a footbridge, although animals and motorbikes also use it. The bridge has many monkeys which will attack bridge users if they are carrying food. There is no charge to cross the bridge.
