Utrecht Centraal Station (Utrecht, Netherlands)

Utrecht Centraal Station is a major hub in the Dutch railway system and the largest station by size and passenger numbers. Its 14 platforms provide local and national services, and it is the terminus for the Schiphol airport shuttle. International services such as the ICE trains to Frankfurt and Basel also stop here. The first station was opened in 1843 and the current buildings date from the 1970s. A major reconstruction of the station buildings and surrounding area is under way. The station provides a full range of services for passengers such as waiting room, toilets, lift, left luggage, cash machines. Car and bicycle parking is available, and bikes can be hired. There are snack bars and small shopping outlets in the station, which is also integrated into the Hoog Catharijne shopping centre with its large range of stores.
