Precis som så många andra liknande engelska palats så har arvsskatter och annat gjort att slottet sedan årtionden är öppet för allmänheten även om det fortfarande är familjen Howards hem. Detta gör att du kan gå guidade turer här och få se den fantastiska slottsinredningen med all sin konst i de delar av slottet som öppnats för besökare. Många ägare har samlat konst och Reynolds och Canaletto är bara ett par av de konstnärer som finns representerade. Den som vill kan sedan besöka de gamla vagnsstallarna vilka gjorts om till kostymmuseum och även har en souvenirbutik. En tur till caféet eller den lokala delikatessbutiken går också att göra om man inte bara vill strosa runt i slottsparken som ger oerhörda vyer av det imponerande slottet. Att ta sig hit är enklast med bil men det går även bussar från Yorks busstation, speciellt sommartid. När dessa inte går kan man be att få gå av vid stora vägen några kilometer bort om man tar bussen mellan York och Malton. Det går också att ta tåg eller buss till Malton och därefter taxi. Slottet har förvisso postadress York men ligger närmare den lilla marknadsstaden Malton några mil österut.
