Craigdarroch Castle (Victoria, Canada)

Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, British Columbia was built during the latter part of the 19th century as the family home of Robert Dunsmuir. It is built in the style of a Scottish Highland Castle with stone turrets and cost around $500,000 to construct. It covers an area of 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) and features 39 different rooms. It originally stood in 27 acres of landscaped grounds. Following the death of Robert Dunsmuir the castle and its grounds were sold by his wife and the land was broken up and developed but the castle was preserved. Today the castle is open for visitors and regularly hosts events throughout the year. It receives around 150,000 visitors each year. Admission prices and opening hours are available on the website.
