Sperlonga Beach (Sperlonga, Italy)

Sperlonga Beach lies on the Ulysses coast to the south of Rome and to the north of Naples. It has been described in many brochures as “the jewel of the Mediterranean”. This beach is well developed and is split into two main sections. The modern beach lies to the north of the town whilst the other beach to the south of the town is said to be more unspoilt. All along its length there are facilities where sun-beds, deckchairs and pedalos can be hired but there are also areas of free beach too, where visitors can bring their own equipment. There are several beachfront bars and ice cream vendors along the beach and the rental deck chairs are unusually arranged in semi circles rather than in straight lines. This is to promote conversations between the bathers and provide a friendly atmosphere. At the end of Sperlonga Beach there is a rocky headland that is a WWF nature reserve.
