Il parco regionale La Mandria è un’estensione di terreno che si trova a pochi chilometri da Torino, Valle della Stura di Lanzo, in un paesaggio di campi e boschi dove vivono liberamente diverse specie di animali selvatici e domestici. E’ stato istituito nel 1978 per salvaguardare quegli ettari di terreno un tempo proprietà dei Savoia che costituiscono un patrimonio storico-architettonico per la presenza di antiche cascine e di interessanti edifici, tra cui il Borgo Castello. L’ambiente è prevalentemente costituito da una foresta in cui crescono farnie, carpini, noccioli, roveri e robinie, mentre il sottobosco è formato da campanule, narcisi,trifogli. La fauna è ricca di mammiferi, quali cervi, cinghiali, volpi, lepri e numerose specie di roditori. Tra gli uccelli si rileva la presenza di aironi cenerini, cicogne bianche, falchi pescatori e germani reali. Il Parco La Mandria è in stretto collegamento con la reggia di Venaria Reale ed è il parco storico cinto da mura più grande d’Italia, sede di una delle residenze sabaude, gli Appartamenti Reali di Borgo Castello, dichiarate dall’Unesco Patrimonio dell’Umanità. La Mandria è la meta preferita per le escursioni domenicali dei torinesi per stare all’aria aperta, passeggiare o praticare sport. L’ente Parco offre un servizio di noleggio biciclette per adulti o ragazzi, situato nella cascina Prato Pascolo, vicino all’ingresso Ponte Verde. Per gli appassionati del cavallo sono organizzati viaggi in carrozza da 8 e 14 posti lungo i sentieri del parco ed escursioni guidate con monta inglese. Nel parco, inoltre, sono presenti percorsi ginnici e numerose aree pic-nic immerse nei boschi o sulla riva dei tanti piccoli laghetti disseminati sul territorio. Per gli amanti del cultura ci sono passeggiate alla scoperta del sistema delle cascine, un tempo utilizzate per l’allevamento dei cavalli,del reposoir di caccia, dei resti del ricetto medievale e delle antiche ville presenti. La maggior attrattiva architettonica è il Borgo Castello situato vicino all’ingresso Ponte Verde di cui oggi sono visitabili i Cantieri e gli Appartamenti Reali, fatti rinnovare alla metà dell’Ottocento da Vittorio Emanuele II, primo re d’Italia. All’interno del parco si tengono anche numerose manifestazioni e sagre tra le quali le più importanti sono la “Fiera dei rastei e delle capline” con prodotti agricoli e “Il viale in bancarella” con bancarelle di enogastronomia. Presso l’ingresso di Ponte Verde c’è il centro visitatori dove è possibile avere informazioni sul parco e prenotare visite guidate. La ristorazione è assicurata dal Ristorante didattico Prato Pascolo che offre prodotti tipici e tradizionali del territorio. Il Parco è aperto tutti i giorni dalle ore 8.00 fino alle 20.00 nei mesi estivi e le 17.00 in quelli invernali. L’ingresso è libero e può avvenire attraverso diversi ingressi. Per chi arriva da Venaria ci sono gli ingressi Ponte Verde di Viale Carlo Emanuele II, 256 e Tre cancelli di Via Cavallo-Via Scodeggio Per chi arriva da Druento c’è il cancello di Druento di Via Medici del Vascello-Ponte sul Ceronda, mentre per chi giunge da San Gillio è l’ingresso più vicino è Bizzarria presso la Strada Provinciale S. Gillio-La Cassa. Presso l’ingresso Ponte Verde è disponibile un parcheggio a pagamento il sabato e la domenica dalle 8 alle 21 con la tariffa di 0.80 euro l’ora. E’ previsto anche un servizio Bus Express che da Torino conduce alla Mandria tutti i giorni.
