South Yarra Presbyterian Church (Melbourne, Australia)

Look to the Heavens at South Yarra Presbyterian Church

Beautiful situated adjacent to Fawkner Park about five kilometres from Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD), South Yarra Presbyterian Church (SYPC) has stood on this ground since 1854. Rich in history, this church forms part of the Presbyterian Church of Australia (PCA), and preaches orthodox Christianity in an evangelical tradition. SYPC welcomes all people who seek the Christian truth, and believe that the teachings of the Bible are relevant in today’s times. Members of this church pride themselves on being inclusive, so no matter your background or spiritual beliefs, you can expect a warm welcome.

All There is to Know About SYPC

If you’re thinking of attending a service, you’ll be pleased to know that there are two services every Sunday of the year, one in the morning, and one in the evening. You can expect to sing both traditional and modern Christian songs, a reading from the Bible, and prayer. Unlike most churches, SYPC believes that a family should worship together. This is why there is no separate service for children. Instead, Sunday school is held before each church service.

If on the other hand you wish to plan a wedding or baptism, SYPC is a beautiful place to do so. The interiors have been preserved throughout the years, with vibrant stained windows and high vaulted ceilings to form a perfect backdrop to a special day. And if you’re looking for that perfect picture for the front cover of your future wedding album, the nearby Fawkner Park has numerous scenic walkways that are sure to be a photographers dream setting. If you have any questions regarding planning an event at the church, you can contact the administrative staff through their main website’s contact page.

There’s Plenty of Accommodation in South Yarra

If you’ve been invited to a wedding or you’re attending an event at SYPC, you’ll need a conveniently close place to stay while you’re in Melbourne. Most accommodation in South Yarra offers value for money, as the area is not part of Melbourne’s CBD. Punthill South Yarra Grand Hotel boasts serviced apartments with separate living rooms and kitchens, as well as luxury on-site facilities including a fitness centre and spa. You’ll also be able to park your vehicle safely in the on-site parking, and in case you don’t feel like cooking up a storm, you can always head to the ground floor café.

Situated about a 15-minute walk from SYPC, Hotel Melbourne Parkview offers convenience and value. As its name suggests, you’ll be treated to expansive views of Fawkner Park, as well as in-room amenities including a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a docking station. You’ll also be able to relax in the sauna, indoor swimming pool, and hot tub during your stay. Cheaper accommodation includes The College Lawn, and Pint On Punt, both of which provide clean and comfortable hostel rooms. And if you get hungry during your visit to SYPC, there are several restaurants and cafes within a ten-minute walk from the church, including Darling Café, Two Birds One Stone, and Dainty Sichuan Food.
